The National Park Service (NPS) has awarded a $3.3 million contract for the extensive rehabilitation of the historic Fort Donelson National Battlefield Visitor Center. For the safety of park visitors and bears, all park trails and the Kaasdaa Héen (Indian River) area within the park boundaries are temporarily closed effective as of 6:00 pm, October 12, 2021. See attached map. The closure is due to increased observation of bears. As visitation to outdoor spaces continues to grow exponentially, the Horseshoe Bend Overlook at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was chosen as a Hot Spot by the Leave No Trace organization.
