KNP Complex North and South Zones Update October 14, 2021

Along the western flank of the KNP Complex today, crews will patrol and mop up along strong containment lines. No challenges are anticipated. Along the eastern and southern flanks, the fire is expected to produce more smoke which will settle in the valleys and canyons. From Montecito Lodge to Stony Creek, containment line construction will progress. Reopening of the African Burial Ground’s Visitor Center

Beginning Thursday, October 14, 2021, the African Burial Ground National Monument will increase access to the site by opening the indoor Visitor Center, including the exhibits. The hours of operation will continue to remain the same from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Yellowstone visitation statistics for September 2021

Yellowstone National Park hosted 872,695 recreation visits in September 2021. This is a 4% increase from September 2020 (837,114 recreation visits) and a 26% increase from September 2019 (693,118 recreation visits). https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/news/21029.htm

Temporary Closure of All Park Trails Due to Bear Activity

For the safety of park visitors and bears, all park trails and the Kaasdaa Héen (Indian River) area within the park boundaries are temporarily closed effective as of 6:00 pm, October 12, 2021. See attached map. The closure is due to increased observation of bears. An Exciting Step Forward: National Park Service Awards Contract for Rehabilitation of Fort Donelson Visitor Center

The National Park Service (NPS) has awarded a $3.3 million contract for the extensive rehabilitation of the historic Fort Donelson National Battlefield Visitor Center.
