The author Tim Notier is the real deal, riding his motorcycle around and living in the spirit of true adventure traveler. Now you can live vicariously through Tim while reading his book and enjoying the trials and tribulations.
Transitioning from a cruiser to an adventure bike brought about unique challenges. Tim and his fiancé, Marisa, tackle many cool places like the Arches in Utah and the Badlands in South Dakota on his ADV bike. Tim is a good writer and makes the read very interesting humorous and full of great information for riding in the beautiful mid-western united states.
Below is the overall theme, back cover and a biography. Take a read.

Maiden Voyage:
The Prequel to the Adventure of a Lifetime.
Overall theme:
Adventure can come in many forms. You may not have to cross oceans, or the borders of foreign lands to achieve a sense of accomplishment and wonder. Along the way you may find out a little more about yourself, and the ones you love.
Back Cover:
When a couple from Chicago buy an adventure motorcycle and decide to take a trip around the Rocky Mountains on it, they have no idea how inspirational such a short trip could be.
Their journey is humorously told with beautiful scenery, interesting characters met along the way, and countless uncomfortable situations (i.e. the traveling strippers they befriended, Tim’s almost accidental initiation into a gang, a devil child on the side of the road with wicked aim, and the several times where the most peaceful of locations almost lead to certain doom), all with a sprinkle of deep-seated inspiration. Written with sweeping descriptions of the landscape and a laugh-out-loud sense of humor, Maiden Voyage is an unforgettable journey into the western wilds of the United States for two people who are woefully unprepared, and yet their trials and mistakes will make you want to be right there with them, discovering for yourself what it is to truly have an adventure.
Biography
Tim Notier was born and raised just west of Chicago, Illinois. For the first 32 years of his life, he rarely explored more than an hour away from the hospital he was born in. But now things have changed. He has sold all of his possessions, and has traded his behind-the-desk job for a full time behind-the-handlebars adventure.
Tim Notier’s book ‘Maiden Voyage – The Prequel to The Adventure of a Lifetime’ express all of the frustrations, successes, nightmares, and victories that took place on his trip around the Rocky Mountains in a humorous tone. The book confirms that adventure can come in many forms. You may not have to cross oceans, or the borders of foreign lands to achieve a sense of accomplishment and wonder. Along the way you may find out a little more about yourself, and the ones you love.

KLX®250S Camo
Kawasaki is releasing the KLX 250 in Matrix Camo Gray for 2018. A great lightweight 4 stroke dual sport adventure bike for all you ADV riders out there!
It looks great with the gray matix camo digital pattern and the badass black wheels. You can get Kawa standard green color for $200 less, if interested. But for the cool camo design/color and black wheels I think it is well worth the extra couple bills.
Check out Kawasaki’s page on KLX250S.

Find a group Adventure and Dual Sport motorcycle Riders to explore the trails.
It is great to ride motorcycles with your like minded group of friends, for not only companionship but also for safety reasons. If a motorcycle breaks down or if person hurts themselves, having a buddy will really come in handy. If you don’t have a steady ADV riding group, finding riding buddies shouldn’t be too difficult. Riding the local trails and fire roads, state parks, and other cool roads usually get the ball rolling. So one of the best things to do is simply invest some saddle time and get out on your bike and ride, you are sure to have another enthusiast start chatting when you are fueling up, taking a lunch break or making a stop. My opinion is that the ADV/dual sport riders are simply an amazing quality group of great people.
But just in case that isn’t panning out, here are a few other ideas for finding riding buddies:
- A top suggestion would be advrider.com and go into your geographic forum. Riders are always posting rides and would be happy to have you along. Make sure to read the post or ask what type of riding they are doing– as you don’t want to be taking your 1200 beast down single track with some light agile small cc KTM’s, or vice versa.
- Another is checking meetup.com for riders and “meet ups” in your area for dual sport or adventure riders
- Going to adventure or overland events or meets are also a great idea. Like horizonsunlimited.com or overlandexpo.com to name a couple.
- Check out our WorldCrosser event calendar for adventure and dual sport rides and events that you may want to attend.
- Check out social networks like Facebook for adventure motorcycle riding groups, join a group that is built around your bike – like the KLR 650 for example.
- Speak with your local dealership for events, rides, manufacture days.
- Register for a motorcycling training course, obviously an off-road or “adventure” centric course like PSSOR.
- Go on an organized professional adventure riding tour you will be sure to meet some like minded individuals, but some of these tours can cost a lot of money. i.e. RawHyde, RideADV, and Ayres Adventures to name a few.
- Phone apps, well there are a few like WeRide, Rider, Rever and others.
- If you are riding more off road dual sport type of riding, which can fade into adventure riding at times, a great place to start are enduros and hare scrambles. Check AMA, American Motorcycle Association, site for many of these sanctioned events. Remember these are dual sport rides, so be prepared with light nimble bike and motocross gear, no big GS1200 and flip flops. ; )
Hope this is helpful advice and you find a good group to ride with on regular basis. Also WorldCrosser has a number of members that ride together here in NJ and will be integrating clubs into our site, in terms of forum or social app aspect down the road- still in beta. Anyway, sign up as WC member on our site and be part of the inception of this club aspect that will bring ADV riders together!
Enjoy, and as always, ride safe and have fun out there!

BMW has released their G 310 GS Adventure motorcycle.
This 300cc adventure motorcycle is in tune with the industry’s trend towards lighter, smaller displacement, less expensive adventure bikes.
As you can see it doesn’t have spoked wheels, which is understandable, since this adv bike is not intended to be a dual sport motorcycle that will see a good amount of dirt. It is a light adventure bike and I wouldn’t be skipping whoops on this baby. It’s 19″ front wheel is more comfortable on fire roads and light easy gravel roads or trails. ABS comes standard, but can be switched off and it will come in black, red and white color schemes. It looks like cool adv bike and it will undoubtedly carry the BMW quality.

Another entry level ADV bike is hitting the market, the Suzuki DL250 better known as the V-Strom 250.
The first thing I noticed was the very cool round front headlight, kind of Dakar or Rally inspired feel to it, in my opinion it really makes the bike. This ADV bike will get awesome gas milage, 300 miles to a tank of gas, have ABS and a low seat height of 31″
This bike is following the light weight Adventure bike trend in the industry.
See Kawasaki Versys X-300, BMW G310 GS, and the Honda CRF250.
It is not yet available here in the states, but we are hopeful on this side of the pond.
